October Member Spotlight: Kristyna Eagle
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and for our Monthly Member Spotlight, we’re featuring BZ member Kristyna Eagle. A Governor Mifflin School District French teacher, mother of one and die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan, the 46-year-old says that Body Zone was a critical component of her road to recovery and health from breast cancer. She considers her fitness regimen, she aims for 60 minutes of exercise five days a week on our Cardio loft, track or main fitness floor, and the healthy lifestyle she’s built as a staple in life, and knows she’s doing all she can to be a healthy, thriving person. Hear from her below on her outlook in life since her cancer diagnosis in October 2007, her road to recovery and why she thinks leading a fit and healthy life in the “right” sense means everything.
How do you feel today?
I feel great! I am 100% healthy.
Tell us about your road to recovery.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 I went through a few surgeries, chemo and radiation. Fitness was an important part of my life before I was diagnosed and that has never changed. Exercise and working out has been a constant in my life. My doctors firmly believe that being in such great shape at the time of diagnosis enabled me to sail through my treatments with minimal side effects. Body Zone was a tremendous part of my support network as I fought the battle.
What’s your outlook today?
Each year when it is time for my annual check-up I get a little anxious. However, I know that I am doing everything in my control to be as healthy as I can be. Having breast cancer was just a little bump in the road.
What are your words of advice for others? What are your takeaways from this journey?
Exercise and being healthy is not about being a certain size or seeing a low number on the scale. Fitness is all about being healthy. Make workouts part of your day that are non-negotiable: schedule workouts like you schedule other stuff and don’t let anything get in the way. It’s not about what you can’t do but what you can do. Body Zone offers so many different (and fun things) it’s easy to find something you enjoy doing and stick with it.
