This league proves you’re never too old to play hockey
Body Zone’s fall/winter hockey leagues for players ages 35 and older is open for registration through October 10. Registration includes 16 games, playoffs, evaluations, jerseys and ref fees.
Now a full-fledged league, this division of hockey is entering its second calendar year and third season overall.
Play began during the fall/winter of 2015-16 with 30 players, enough to form two teams. That season was all about simply getting on the ice. Players’ teammates were different every week. That kept things fresh during the start-up season.
During the spring/summer of 2016 the league grew to five full teams and a total of 75 players. Each team played with the same 15 players for the entire season in the traditional sense as the roster shuffling was no longer needed.
In March of 2016 Courtney H. Diener-Stokes captured the essence of the league in a Reading Eagle article titled “Ice time is on their side.”
