A Talented College Athlete Uses Summer Break – And Body Zone Physical Therapy – To Get Back In Gear

Lauren Diggan’s a star on the University of New Hampshire Gymnastics Team: Named Team MVP and All-Conference First Team on the Bars and only a rising sophomore, she’s bound for a successful collegiate career. But when she got bone spur surgery on her shoulder after concluding her freshman season, she needed a consistent and professional physical therapy plan to get herself back on track, and ready to compete prior to her sophomore campaign.

Luckily, the Governor Mifflin grad didn’t have to look too far – Body Zone PT’s Dr. Randy Yocum helped her with a broken tibia when she was a junior in high school, and so when she was prompted by her UNH team trainer to continue physical therapy over the summer just a few years later, she knew where to go.

“I knew Randy would help me get back to my sport quickly and ready to compete next season,” Diggan told BZ. “Initially, my coach at my club gym [in high school] recommended Randy due to his knowledge and success in working with athletes, and I ended up happy working with him, especially because he knows the sport of gymnastics very well.”

Since starting her physical therapy with Dr. Yocum, she says that she’s regained full mobility in her shoulder, and that she feels ready to train again to compete in all four events – the floor, vault, bars and beam for UNH next year. The journey to complete mobility wasn’t necessarily easy, but she credits Randy and the rest of the Body Zone Physical Therapy team for helping her get back to her full-fledged athletic abilities.

“I like how Randy is very accommodating for your needs and makes sure you are pain free in the process. Randy is supportive and such an easy person to talk to, and that makes a big difference when your body and mind need to work on recovery,” she said.

In addition to her progression with her shoulder injury, Diggan’s thoroughly enjoyed using Body Zone’s complimentary three-month fitness and aquatics membership she’s been given with her physical therapy routine. It’s helped her stay in shape and keep up her strength before she gets in to official practice this fall.

“Body Zone has so many machines, an indoor track, and just everything I need. Along with such a great facility, they also have a great staff that is willing to help you if you don’t know how to work a machine or if you want a personal trainer too,” she said. “My membership is very helpful to me.”
