Charlene’s Dash To The Finish Line
Meet Charlene Fourquet. She loved the last session of our “Your Way to a 5K” group running class so much that she re-upped for the next class starting September 7. Why? We recently had a chance to catch up with her and here’s what she had to say.
Were you a running newbie prior to the class?
I had tried many times to find a routine in running and I just didn’t know where or how to begin. I saw the flyer to sign up for the training at Body Zone to run a 5K. I enrolled in the class with the hopes it would work and it did!
Did you like learning and training with a group?
I really enjoyed being with a group. It motivated me to push myself another minute and another mile. I met some really great people and it was a joy to work on our personal goals by running together.
How did the program help your health?
During the program, I lost 12 pounds. Not only did Coach Lisa train us to run but in almost every class, she would give us nutrition advise and we would receive emails from her with an exercise schedule every week. I was able to change some of my eating habits and have maintained some of my weight loss.
What did it feel like to have a goal race? To cross the finish line …
Running and completing a 5K was one of many goals for me in 2017. To have a goal race really pushed me to stay active and It felt empowering. When I crossed the finished line, I almost cried tears of joy. My supportive husband and two children were waiting for me with signs and I wanted to start screaming, I DID IT! I contained myself and couldn’t stop talking about how I felt each mile of the race.
Would you do it again?
Yes! Actually, I’m already signed up for the next class starting September 7th. My goal is to run another 5K in a shorter time and to lose even more weight. I have a long way to go but I am sure that I will not give up especially with the motivation that I receive in a group training setting.
